Parents, Unite! What Happens if a “Mean” Mom Lives With a “Softie” Dad?
First, happy new year. And second, thanks to my Facebook Mean Moms Rule subscribers, who answered my “what should I blog about next/what do you guys want to talk about” post the other day. So many great ideas! I’ve decided to start by addressing this: What happen when you and the adult person you’re raising your kids with aren’t on the same page with issues like discipline? You know, you’re mean, he’s mushy? You make a rule, he scoffs? (Or, of course, vice versa)? Love it! So here goes: I think I may have said this four million times in …Keep Reading
American Girl Doll the “Price” of Admission for a Birthday Party? FAIL!
This’ll be short, because it’s a short story that’s left me, on the how-do-I-feel spectrum, adrift between puzzled and spitting mad, and I’m interested in opinions. The other night, at our friends’ house for pizza, my friend, Sally, mentioned that her daughter, Phoebe, who is five, was just invited to one of her pals’ birthday parties. My husband found it exhausting (though certainly better than breaking up fights!), but I like it, even when it’s tiring: I like answering their questions. Or anyone’s questions, really. (Speaking of which, if you have a moment, read this Q&A I did with my friend Meagan Francis on her wonderful blog, The Happiest Mom. I love that we can find the large overlap between Happy Mom and Mean Mom). …Keep Reading
A Couple of Updates, and A New Feature: Ask the Mean Mom!
It’s been a busy month. In case you have not noticed, my book was released last month (no! what’s that you say!?), and since then I’ve been consumed, for at least part of each day physically, and all of each day mentally and emotionally, investing in its (hopeful) success. It kicked off with the first-annual Local Author Fair at my library, which was a great success and a lot of fun. I’ve been working the publicity front, with some decent success (though I’m hoping this is just the tip of the iceberg) with guest blog posts, like this one on …Keep Reading
